pre application requirements

this video is helpful in getting all questions asked about program, https://youtu.be/9sVjX-fUW7s

---->> I had to look over APU upper division BSN transfer or lvn options overview Upper-Division BSN Transfer and LVN Options - Academic Catalog which gives you the classes you are going to take if you are in the APU program, and then the counselor also gives you one which are requirements you have to meet according to yur college, this link here will give you the exact similar thing they will send you just make sure to click the link and then find your college and click the BSN to LVN program and that is the outline the counselor gives you. Search by Community College - Professional Transfer. this next link is the one for ELAC East Los Angeles College - LVN to BSN and Transfer - 11.18.21.pdf - Google Drive you could also find it with the other option link where it says search by community college if this link doesn't work.

to my surprise they let you transfer with some classes completed so when you transfer you still have to take classes before the program which they won't tell you, the extra classes you have to take is philosophy, theology, statistics, and nutrition. so, make sure you take those before going to APU that more money you have to pay with them, ( 1st update,,,side note my classes for ethics, nutrition and world religion did not transfer to the correct classes for them i had to petition to see if i could get credit and i am still waiting on that reply,, 2nd update.... the only class i got credit for was statistics so i wont have to take statistics in the RN program. i would defintely advise you to take statistics as it transfers over to the rn program, there are no other classes that are required to take before the program, so just follow the guidlines given above and complete statistics. onc you get accepted to APU they will give you the map of how your 2 years will look and start automatically))

the classes they approved and said i was able to transfer and apply already were the following:

English 101,

music 116,

chicano 007,

English 102,

comm 101,

psych 001,

micro-020,

anat 001,

physiol 001,

chem 051,

psych 41,

math 125.

however, I relooked at their lvn to rn catalog and noted I have to take ( >>1 st update<< my classes for world religion, nutrition and philosphy ethics did not cover my classes for the RN program,, they only qualififed under GE credits and not as an actual RN program even after petitioning them,, so nutrition did not statisfy my rn program for nutrition class, for world religion it did nit statisfy my rn program classes and ethics only satisfied philosphy but did not satisfy my rn program ethics class, the only one i got credit for is statistics which i will not have to take in the RN program, the rest i have to take again..)

nutrition with them, ( UPDATE,, NOT GIVEN CREDIT FOR THE ACTUAL CLASS IN PROGRAM , WILL HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN WITH THEM)

statistics with them, ( WAS GIVEN CREDIT, I WONT HAVE TO DO IT DURING THE PROGRAM)

theology, ( I TOOK NO CLASSES FOR THIS AS MY COMUNITY COLLEGE HAD NONE)

bible courses, ( WORLD RELIGION, NO CREDIT GIVEN WILL HAVE TO DO 2 BIBLE CLASSES WITH THEM.

philosophy. ( ETHICS DID NOT GIVE CREDIT FOR THE ACTUAL CLASS WILL HAVE TO TAKE THIS IN THE PROGRAM AGAIN)

so I did not apply to fall semester I went ahead and continued at elac taking, philos 020, nutrition, medical terminology (only because some schools may require it not APU) and politics 101 (for other schools incase i don't get accepted), the counselor said i didn't need to take them to transfer but when asked if I have to take them later on he said yes ( 1st update,,,, ITS UP TO YOU IF YOU WANT TO ALSO DO THOSE EXTRA CLASSES BUT YOU WILL PROBABLY AND MOST LIKELY ONLY GET CREDIT AS GE CREDIT NOT IN THE ACTUAL RN PROGRAM))

all the classes ive taken at elac are the following.

chicano 37,

history 007 world religion

medical terminology,

pol sci 001,

math 227 statistics,

music 116,

philosophy 20,

chicano 02,

chicano 52,

english 102,

nutrition,

math 245

college algebra,

physiology 01,

sociology 01,

math 125 intermediate algebra,

micro 20,

anat 001,

psych 41,

chicano 07,

comm 101,

English 101.

total credit 77, gpa 3.95 and science 4.0 , all grades were A's and got 1 B in English 100.

I'll be posting more information as the process goes on, if I'm missing any classes that i overlooked that you can take in community college i will update on here. any ways i will update regardless my journey ..( UPDATE. the only class that actually was given credit in the RN program was statistics from elac, there are no other classes you can take to make the rn program shorter, my grauation date is set for december 2027

   -------->>during application<<------

--->> in August to September 2024 I completed my physical, and immunizations because they are needed. And sometimes to get appointment it takes forever.   make sure to do the following before the application or mid application:

ALSO, JUST SO YOUR NOT IN A HURRY MAKE SURE EVERYTHING BELOW IS COMPLETED SO YOUR NOT RUSHED TO COMPLETE AS THEY ONLY GIVE 2WEEKS TO COMPLETE ALL OF THIS SOMETIMES THEY EXTEND THE DEADLINE BUT IT BETTER TO HAVE THIS DONE SO YOUR NOT IN A RUSH. sometimes they do relax that deadline by only a week, it better to just be prepared and have all of this done and current.

for Health care requirements:

  • MMR (measles, mumps and rubella vaccines): 2 vaccinations required or blood work for determining a positive antibody titer, if the titer is negative, will need 1 booster shot and a 2nd titer
  • Varicella:2 vaccinations required or blood work for determining a positive antibody titer, if the titer is negative, will need 1 booster shot and a 2nd titer
  • Hepatitis B vaccine: 3 vaccinations or a blood work for determining a positive antibody for Hepatitis B, if the titer is negative, will need 1 booster shit and a 2nd titer. Another option id to decline the vaccine through vaccine waiver (may cost you not being able to go to a clinical site, you will need to make up hours and they APU strictly said that there may not be any make hours available meaning you won't pass the program)
  • TB test: 2 step TB test 1-12 weeks apart or a QuantiFERON gold blood test, if positive provide a clear chest Xray within the last 4 years and a TB questionnaires done in the last 12 months.
  • TDAP vaccines: submit a document showing completed vaccination with one being in the last 10 years.
  • Influenza: administered between flu season or a declination waiver form (remember it may not allow you to move on in the program if you decline)
  • you need a physical done, when you schedule your appointment make sure to tell the provider to schedule the blood work and make sure your UpToDate on all these vaccines listed. I highlighted in red as it was easier to just have blood drawn on the same day of your physical. At orientation they will provide you with a Physical clearance form for your provider to sign so all these health care requirements should have already been done and schedule your appointment for the physical form to be signed at that next appointment. When I scheduled my appointment for the physical i requested all the vaccines that I highlighted in red to be done and at the same time as physical to be performed, (I scheduled two appointment one for the physical and the next appointment was for the physical clearance form, so i had perfect time). here is the form if you cant access please just wait until your orientation https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:VA6C2:6a9c363b-1652-455a-983f-ef7348a6a12d
